Our Progress February 2024

Challenges We first wanted to thank everyone for remaining focused on our cause and a war that no one wished for and to continue for so long.  Our dedication and attention has always maintained through all the ups and downs even when our own lives hit walls with challenges and forced us to make adjustments to the plans.  October 2023 through February 2024, Nadiia and I faced countless difficulties both of a personal nature and obstacles providing direct aid within occupied territories inside the city and the outskirts near Nova Kakhovka. War & Family Two years ago today, on February 24th, 2022, Ukrainians went to bed in their homes, thinking about tomorrow and making plans, but tomorrow they woke up to a war. Millions of lives turned upside down and changed forever in one night of horror. Since then Ukrainians continue to live through that horror. For the rest of

Since March 2022 we have been delivering food and essentials in tons to thousands of people throughout Nova Kakhovka Ukraine, in the middle of a war, and under Russian aggressive occupation.   Continued Challenges Organizing the logistics of fundraising, and distributing the necessary funds to our volunteers inside Nova Kakhovka Ukraine is always complicated and very challenging.  Each purchase inside the city has to come with a

Our Progress June & July 2023 | Ukraine

Our Challenges June & July It has been almost 3 months since Russia destroyed the Nova Kakhovka Hydro Power Electric dam in Ukraine, killing thousands of people, displacing 10s of thousands of families, and contaminating the Dnipro River leaving over 700,000 people without drinking water. As the waters rose to over 15′ high in some areas the Russian military didn’t take any actions to rescue or help the citizens affected by the floods. Moreover, they would restrain and block civilians and volunteers trying to evacuate people or deliver water and food supplies. Many of you probably have seen videos of Russians shelling rescue boats with civilians on board in Kherson. You can easily get the picture of their “aggressive approach” towards attempts to evacuate people on the occupied territories that flooded. With the help of Nadiia’s tireless hours on the phone organizing we did manage to get about 80 families

Nova Kakhovka Dam Catastrophe

On behalf of Nova Kahovka for Life, Inc we want to appeal for help in connection with the man-made disaster that occurred as a result of the destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant. https://novakahovka.life/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/5190084866212510879.mov On June 6, at approximately 3 AM Kyiv time (8 PM EST), the Russian military blew up the Nova Kakhovka dam. It is reported that the detonation was carried out from inside the engine room. Eight hours after the explosion, the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Station was completely underwater. The dam is completely destroyed and cannot be restored. This is one of the biggest man-made disasters that has already brought irreparable consequences as a number of settlements in the Kherson region that are partially or completely flooded. https://novakahovka.life/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/2994523030272598036-1.mp4 Local Ukrainian authorities on the North (Right side of the Dnipro River) are engaged in the evacuation,  however, in the occupied Southern side of the Dnirpo River, about 16,000 people found

Our Progress February 1st 2023 | Ukraine

Previous Next January has been challenging to say the least.  Nova Kahovka is seeing explosions almost daily. The most concerning are attacks inside the city at civilian targets. Ukrainians still living in the city have been paying attention to the direction of where the launches are coming from and where they hit and a large percentage of them are coming from the south eastern side of the city where Russian’s are based (within occupied territory). The next morning after a hit the Russian media will arrive at the scene of the destruction and start reporting for what can only be described as a performance saying the Ukraine military are bombing its own civilians. This has become a frequent behavior with the Russian Military and its media.  Starting New Year’s day the Russian Military cancelled circulation of hryvnya (Ukrainian currency) to be replaced with the Russian ruble with no support to

Your Support & Food Deliveries in Nova Kakhovka With over 2.5 months of not being able to perform deliveries due to the safety of volunteers & civilians we are back with a new coordinator and distributing food & essentials. It is, and always has been, our primary goal to support people in need during this truly devastating time. We have to always look out for the safety of people living in the occupation and July thru September had been especially dangerous.  Over the last few months we have been very productive. For the period from October 24th, 2022 to November 24th, 2022 our financial distribution was: 90,000 uah ($2,461.03) and we delivered over 800 kg of food and over 20 kg of other essentials like soap, detergent, and 480 diapers for disabled children and adults. We keep pushing forward each and every day and wish to thank our volunteers because without

November 11th | Our Progress | Ukraine

We first wanted to apologize for not posting our updates these last few stressful months. As we started our fundraising efforts supporting the people in need within Nova Kahovka (Kakhovka) Ukraine we were able to stay focused as most all systems (farms, stores and the people in the city) were operating fairly regularly. We of course ran into logistical issues as the city is occupied by Russian forces but we found a workable day to day to keep delivering and pushing forward.   The night after our last Traditional Ukrainian Food Tasting Event at Pub 97 on July 11th the situation in Nova Kahovka got worse. The conflict was reaching the city in a very dangerous way. Ukrainian armed forces started to interrupt Russian logistics and hitting their ammunition depots. Some of them located close to open markets right in the middle of the city and of course caused a lot

Our Ukrainian Progress | June 20th

A successful June 12th Tasting Event After many days of Nadiia’s food preparation and a lot of last minute setups we successfully accomplished our second tasting event at the Custom House Museum in Newburyport. The best news from the event was we just about ran out of food.  Nadiia was very flattered to see so many people enjoying her cooking.  We welcome any feedback of the food, our presentation or ideas on another tasting event.  Without your continued support none of this would be possible. We also wanted to thank everyone who could attend our Authentic Ukrainian Food Tasting Event and Dan Healey for his continued dollar for dollar match to our fundraising efforts.  Previous Next With the generosity of Terry & Bernadine Clifford we will be hosting our third Authentic Ukrainian Food Tasting Event at their restaurant Pub 97 on July 10th in Groveland. We want to apologize for the delay in our progress updates.  We have been busy working on many different fundraising ideas, our next Authentic Ukrainian Food Tasting Event, new menu ideas, Verenyky donation pickups, floral crowns, our application for Non-profit status, GoFundMe and new ways to reach more people in creating awareness of our efforts. Each day we push harder because we know their are people in Ukraine, just like you and me, that are scared and worried right now about their safety and next meal. This reality that millions of Ukrainians are going though is unimaginable, especially in the 21st century, which is why we all do our part.  With your donations we are now providing deliveries of food and essentials to over 3000 people every week. We truly thank you so much for your on-going support.   We are now delivering food and essentials to over 3000 people in

A successful first Tasting Event We first wanted to give a huge thank you to over 40 people who could attend to our first Ukrainian Tasting Event on April 30th. Without your support we would not feel so empowered to keep raising money to help people in Ukraine each and every day.  With your support, both to those who could attend, and those who couldn’t we raised over $4000.  This is truly inspiring and which is why we are already planning another one. Fingers crossed as we look for a larger venue. Side note: For those of you who were able to attend our event and took photos or video if you could share with us that would be great. RSVP here.  Even if you only have an hour we hope more of you can attend to join us for a traditional food experience. In the first week we have seen an amazing interest and we hope to see more of you. Weather is looking good too!  Our Progress | April 26th 2022 We are continuing to see a steady flow of people fleeing Nova Kahovka. Travel like this is only possible for people strong enough to be able to endure this over 2 day trip to Poland and now toward Odessa, Ukraine to Romania.  This is very risky trip as the Russian military have been randomly blocking roads forcing people north instead to neighboring cities and villages to spend

Our Progress | April 14th, 2022

As we continue to expand our efforts to reach more people willing to help we want to remind those who may not be familiar with our cause and our background. Nadiia was born and grew up in Nova Kahovka, Ukraine. After their 2 year of dedication and determination through the US K1 Visa process Jarred and Nadiia, in 2018, were able to finally marry on St Pete Beach FL and now living on Plum Island, Newburyport MA where they happily call home. Nadiia’s ties to Ukraine remain strong as her parents, sister and her sister’s family as well as her friends and their families all live in Ukraine. Watching the Russian invasion and subsequent devastation that began on February 24th, 2022 is heartbreaking. Nova Kahovka was one of the first major cities in the southeast of Ukraine the Russian military occupied on day 1 of the war.  Both Nadiia and

Our Progress | April 5th, 2022

I first wanted to apologize for our delayed update. We have been working on a few other fundraising ideas including an Authentic Ukrainian fundraising dinner as well as hand-made Ukrainian food you can take-home to enjoy. Thank you to everyone who had time to answer our survey. Both ideas offer an amazing opportunity for people who have not been able to visit Ukraine to experience this cultural menu firsthand. We are working out the details and will send out an update soon. We have been creating 18×24 Ukrainian yard signs that we will be giving out to anyone who wants to show their support to not only Ukraine but our cause. We should be receiving 100 new yard signs next week. Over the past few weeks we have been working with a local 18 year old Ukrainian from Nova Kahovka, an aspiring photographer, to help us with the imagery in

Our Progress | March 25th 2022

I wanted to take a minute to re-introduce our efforts to the readers who may not have been following our fundraising efforts. With the support of not only Sandi & Bob Sadowski (Port Sheet Metal) as well as all our extended friends and family and all the generous people who have already donated to our cause and supported us we truly thank you. Without your support none of this would be possible. Jarred & Nadiia Sadowski As many of you may know, my wife Nadiia is from Ukraine moving to Massachusetts in 2018. While she is safe here in Newburyport all of her family and friends are living in her hometown, Nova Kahovka in Ukraine (40,000 people living in this city and much more if you include the surrounding villages). Since the first day of the war Feb 24th, her town and surrounding towns were occupied by the Russian military.
